The middle child of a prominent family, Sunyoung was never simply left to her own devices. Her family has had two professions for decades: Politics and (Business) Finance. A tradition that was steeped originally in land ownership, then development, and soon reached into real estate and construction, zoning, and prominent civil engineering firms. Then came the political side of the family, boasting members of the legislative national assembly, ambassadors, and favorable judgeships.
Family interests always came first. That word was law, and she was expected to work hard, excel, and become an asset -- not a hindrance. The creative side of her wanted to do much more for her spirit than her family had set out for her, and she found herself delving into the arts. Fashion, drawings, paints.... One thing was for sure, amidst all the rigid blueprints her family businesses tended to have, she needed an outlet, dabbling in creating her own designs. That was how she was introduced to architecture. It was a happy middle ground.
Though Sunyoung always liked to have fun, she wondered how some of her peers could possibly have any time to get into so much trouble. Her parents kept her too busy to consider much of anything most times, and the threat of their displeasure was certainly enough to keep her in line -- at least when she was in the spotlight.
Academically she excelled and while she had her choice of schools, she decided that Yonsei seemed like the place to be -- not at all because her best friend was there. (except it completely was because of that). And she couldn't imagine anyone else she would want to be with through college than her ever present partner in crime since they were young. Parties. Boys. All kinds of fun. They were always joined at the hip whenever the two of them were together.
Her undergraduate experience went smoothly, dedicated to her work and keeping life in line -- for the most part -- during her time. When it was time to graduate though, she was faced with a tough decision. It was up to her to pursue career success now, and her parents really wanted her to go into Law School. She's stalling, at this point, with a masters in interior design. There's still some debate for her happy medium to pan out smoothly, but Sunyoung's doing the best she can day to day and she really loves what she's doing.
